    Salary Information:
    $27.77 to top at $29.99 hourly wage.

    The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from NTN with oral board interviews conducted on an as-needed basis.     Special Requirements
    King County Court Protection Marshals are specially commissioned employees who ensure safety in King County courthouses and other county buildings. They assist the weapons screeners at the Courthouse entrances, respond to calls for assistance in courtrooms, provide safety escorts in problematic situations, and arrest people when necessary. They have full powers of arrest while on duty. Job duties include:
    • Observing courtroom proceedings and intervening to prevent escalation of problem situations.
    • Respond to all types of calls for assistance in an assigned facility.
    • Perform walk-through or hand-held security scanning and hand searches at various building sites or courtrooms; and confiscate illegal items or refuse entry when warranted.
    • Monitor, assist and oversee Security Screeners to ensure that screening of the public is done in a professional manner.
    • Patrol courtrooms, buildings and other areas to discourage unacceptable and unlawful behavior in and around assigned areas.
    • Remove, restrain or physically arrest individuals who may be loitering or disturbing the peace, or who have no lawful business to conduct in the building or surrounding areas. Use of force may be required.
    • Respond to fire alarms, bomb threats and other safety concerns; and assist with building evacuations.
    • Provide information, direction and assistance to the public at assigned facility.
    • Provide safety escorts and assist other law enforcement agencies as needed.



    Court Protection Marshal candidates will take the Court Protection Marshal Physical Abilities Test (PAT). This is a separate test from the standard Law Enforcement PAT.

    *IMPORTANT*
    Court Protection Marshal candidates will need to contact Jim Patten at 425-423-9922 to schedule their Court Protection Marshal Physical Abilities Test prior to testing.

    If you sign up for King County Court Protection Marshal and another Law Enforcement job that requires a regular PAT, you will need to take both the regular PAT and the Court Protection Marshal PAT.

    Prior Experience
    No more than a 3 year break in service from last law enforcement employment.

    Required Certification
    • Graduation from a certified law enforcement academy that meets or exceeds the Washington State standards.
    • AND two years work experience as a full time commissioned police officer.
    • OR four years of continuous experience as an active reserve police officer with qualifications standards and work duties similar to the King County Sheriff's Office.

    Uncorrected vision of 20/100 or better, correctable to 20/30 with the use of glasses, hard contact lenses or soft contacts you have worn for less than one year OR

    Corrected vision to 20/30 or better with soft contact lenses you have worn for at least one year (in this case there is no uncorrected vision standard) OR

    Uncorrected vision of 20/30 or better.
    College:
    None
    Prior Experience:

    Academy Certification:
    Graduation from a certified law enforcement academy that meets or exceeds the Washington State standards AND two years work experience as a full time commissioned police officer OR four years of continuous experience as an active reserve police officer with qualifications standards and work duties similar to the King County Sheriff's Office.
